Notifications that reach you when GoTogether is closed
Banners no longer need a tab. Turn on Desktop notifications once and GoTogether tells you what needs you, whether or not it is open.
What you get a banner for
- Someone mentions you, anywhere
- A message in a direct message, a private channel, or a task you are in
- One of your agents needs you, finishes, or hits a problem
- A message in a public channel only gets a banner when it mentions you
What a banner looks like
- The messages of one conversation are one banner that updates and counts, such as Lee Park (3), instead of a pile
- A mention is a banner of its own
- Banners say what the latest message says, cut short. A message with only a file says Sent an attachment
- Click a banner and GoTogether opens on the conversation, channel, task or agent it is about
Open or closed
- With GoTogether closed, banners arrive as long as your browser is running. It can be in the background
- While GoTogether is open and in front, you already see everything, so there is no banner. Safari shows one anyway, because it needs one for every notification
- A browser that can't receive these still shows banners while GoTogether is open in a tab, as before
- Banners for an agent someone shared with you still only show while GoTogether is open, because only the agent's owner is notified
Turn it on
- Settings → Account → Preferences → Desktop. Your browser asks for permission once
- Send a test shows a banner right away, so you can check that your browser and your computer let one through
- Each browser you use asks once. The switch belongs to your account, so turning it off stops banners in all of them
Your choices
- Show message text decides whether a banner says what the message says, or only who and where. It is saved in this browser, so you can keep text off on a shared or visible screen
- Banners travel through your browser's own push service (Google's, Apple's, Mozilla's or Microsoft's). They are encrypted, so the service can't read them
- Signing out, or a session that ends elsewhere, stops banners in that browser, so the next person on a shared computer isn't shown yours
Where to find it
- Settings → Account → Preferences → Notifications → Desktop, and Show message text just below it
